2017 Confucius Institute Scholarship for Excellent Students at the University of Pernambuco in Brazil

With aims to cultivate qualified Chinese language learners and facilitate the understanding of Chinese culture, Confucius Institute Scholarship (CIS) has been launched by Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban for outstanding students recommended by overseas Confucius Institutes (independently operated classrooms) to learn Chinese language in Central University of Finance and Economics.

Ⅰ.Eligibility, Coverage and Application

 

 

Requirements

◆Application is open to non-Chinese citizens aged between 16 to 35, who are recommended by Confucius Institute at the University of Pernambuco in Brazilwith good mental and physical conditions and no records of misconduct.

Coverage:Full Scholarship and Partial Scholarship.More information refers to Appendix 2.

1. Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study Students

Application Requirements:

·Applicants are required to attain a minimum score of 210 in HSK (Level 3) and have HSKK scores.

2.Scholarship for One-Semester Study Students

·Applicants are required to attain a minimum score of 210 in HSK (Level 3) and have HSKK scores.

. Application Procedure

For application, please log on to the CIS website (cis.chinese.cn) to search for recommending institutions and host institutions, upload application materials, track the progress of application, feedback of assessment and admission results.

Applicants can consult Hanban and host institutions about related policies. Eligible applicants being verified by host institutions will be on the admission list, and the final list of scholarship holders will be released by Hanban after assessment and review. Scholarship holders need to confirm with host institutions to go through the procedures of studying in China, and print the CIS certificate online. They will be granted with the scholarship after completing the enrollment procedures within the stipulated time-period.

Vl. Accommodation:

There are three kinds of International Students Residences on CUFE campus available. Every room in International Students Residences is equipped with TV set, refrigerator, air conditioner, internet access and other facilities. The international students can choose to live in Expert Hotel, International Student Apartments and International Student Dormitory. Priorities will be given to students from Confucius Institute at the University of Pernambuco in Brazil.

Appendix 1

I. Program Introduction

This Program aims to recruit students from Confucius Institute at the University of Pernambuco in Brazil of both One-Semester and One-Academic-Year, and to improve and enhance international students’ Chinese proficiency and Chinese communication skills. Students who are admitted will receive full-time Chinese learningatSchool of International Cultural Exchange, CUFE.

Training Programs:

Type One: One-Academic-Year Study Students This category, starting from September 2017, provides scholarship for 11 months. International students who have records of studying in China after January 1st, 2017 are not eligible for the scholarship.

Note:

The Comprehensive course is the principal curriculum through the whole academic year. In the first semester, containing language skill courses including Spoken Language, Listening, and Reading and Writing, the curriculum aims to improve students’ basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Meanwhile, our school also offers Chinese Characters and Primary Syntax course so as to strengthen the training of students’ Chinese writing and enhance their understanding of the unique Chinese grammatical form. As to the second semester, students will have a general knowledge of China’s social and cultural conditions by taking the principal curriculum, language skill courses including Listening, Spoken Language and Writing, as well as the Chinese for Economics and Trade course. The Chinese Culture Experience and Practice course embraces Chinese paper-cutting, calligraphy, painting, music, and lectures on Chinese culture and so on.

Type Two: One-Semester Study Students This category, starting from September 2017 or March 2018, provides scholarship for five months, and is exclusively open to applicants with no prior experience of studying in China.

Appendix 2

Confucius Institute Scholarship Coverage and Standards

CIS is categorized into full scholarship and partial scholarship based on its coverage. Full scholarship recipients are exempt from tuition and accommodation fees, and are provided with living allowance (excluding four-week study students), and comprehensive medical insurance. Partial scholarship recipients are exempt from tuition and accommodation fees and are provided with comprehensive medical insurance.

1. Tuition fee is under the overall planning and utilization of host institutions to provide teaching, management, and cultural activities for scholarship holders. The tuition fee covers fees for two Chinese language proficiency tests (HSK and HSKK) that both students for advance study and for degree are required to take before end of the course or before annual assessment and graduation, and excludes fees for textbooks and admission tickets of tourist attractions.

2. Accommodation fee is under the overall planning and utilization of host institutions. Free apartments (usually double rooms) are available for international students in the first academic year in Jilin University. In the second academic year, degree students are required to pay for accommodation. Students can either apply for international student apartments on campus or live off campus. For those who live off campus with the permission of university are entitled to accommodation allowance by month or by quarter. The allowance criterion is RMB 700 per person on monthly basis.

3. Living allowance is granted to full scholarship holders by host institutions on monthly basis. The allowance criterion per person is: undergraduates, one-academic-year students and one-semester students are granted with 2,500 RMB per person per month; MTCSOL students are granted with 3,000 RMB per person per month.

3.1 Scholarship holders are required to complete enrollment procedures within stipulated time-period in each semester; otherwise, their scholarship may be cancelled. Students who are enrolled before the 15th (or on the 15th) of the admission month, are entitled to the full allowance of that month. Students, who are enrolled after the 15th of that month, are only entitled to half of the allowance. The living allowance for the month of graduation will be granted half a month later upon confirming the graduation status by host institutions.

3.2 During the study, for any student who is absent from China due to personal reasons for more than 15 days (excluding winter and summer holidays), the allowance will be suspended during absence. For students who fails the admission physical examination, suspend study or drop out of school for personal reasons, or are given disciplinary punishment by the university, allowance will be terminated on the date of schooling suspension, dropping out or when the decision punishment is announced.

4. Comprehensive medical insurance is purchased by the host institutions in accordance to relevant regulations on international students stipulated by the Ministry of Education of China. Insurance fee per person is 100 RMB for four-week study students, 400 RMB for one-semester students, and 800 RMB per year for students engaged in programme longer than one academic year.

5. Enrollment forms of new and existing scholarship holders for each semester, reports of scholarship cancellation and allowance termination, letters of insurance for newly-enrolled scholarship holders and other relevant documents should be reported to Division of Examination and Scholarships of Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) for the record within 30 days at the beginning of new semester.

Appendix 3

Application Documents for Confucius Institute Scholarship Recommending institutions and host institutions should examine the completeness, validity and accuracy of applicant’s name, nationality and permanent address on the passport. If the following documents are not in Chinese or English version, notarization documents should be provided.

I. Application Documents for all applicants

1. A scanned copy of the passport photo page. Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit relevant documents of entrusted legal guardians in China, who can be Chinese citizens or non-Chinese residing in China.

2.Scanned copies of score reports of HSK and HSKK (valid for two years).

3. Recommendation letter signed by head of the recommending institutions (please provide objective comments on the applicant, including whether the applicant is a student of Confucius Institute or other identity. Chinese language teachers shall submit an employment verification letter and a reference letter provided by the institutes they work for.)

II. Application Documents for degree scholarship programme applicants

4. Certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation), and an official transcript.

5. Applicants of the Scholarship for MTCSOL students are required to provide two references from professors or associate professors. Those who can provide an employment agreement or related documents with the designated teaching institution are preferred.

III. Applicants are expected to contact host institutions directly in case that other materials are required.
